Lady Aggies open inaugural golf season
September 19, 2005MUSKOGEE, Okla. (Sept. 19) - Playing in its first-ever event, the Cameron University women's golf team sits in ninth place after the opening round of the Northeastern State University Women's Golf Classic at Cobblestone Creek Golf Club near Muskogee.
Lauren Gonzales posted a round of 81 on the par-72, 5,873-yard layout to lead the Lady Aggies. Krystle McCorgary and Lauren Madded added scores of 84 and 85, respectively, as Cameron finished with a team score of 338.
Western Washington holds the team lead in the event with a first-round score of 311 (+23). Drury is next, two strokes back at 313, while Central Arkansas enters Tuesday's final round in third with a team score of 314. Tarleton State (316) and St. Mary's University (319) round out the Top 5.
Western Washington's Catherine Kim fired a one-over 73 to take the first-round individual lead by a single stroke over Drury's Tonya Choate. Cameron's Gonzales is among a group tied for 21st.
Action concludes in the NSU Women's Golf Classic on Tuesday with a final round scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.
