Wildcat added to Cameron Aggie golf
April 28, 2009LAWTON, Oklahoma (April 28) – For the second time this spring Cameron head women’s golf coach Rick Goodwin announced the signing of a local standout to the 2009-2010 Aggie squad. Johnna Holden of Fletcher, Oklahoma, is the most recent addition to the CU women’s golf team, and will begin competing for the Black and Gold next fall. Holden graduates from Fletcher High School this May.
“When I started recruiting Johnna I was impressed with how many summer tournaments she plays,” Coach Goodwin said. “She already has a lot of experience and she the has potential to be a very good college golfer. I’m excited to sign her, especially since she is a local player. She has a lot of potential and a lot of talent.”
Holden, under head coach Lonnie Sanders, has been an Oklahoma state qualifier in each of her four seasons thus far at FHS, with this spring’s state qualifier left to go. Last year Holden finished the state event in 4th place as a junior.
“Johnna is a great player and a great student,” Coach Goodwin said. “She works so hard on her golf game and I’m looking forward to her addition on our team. She will strengthen the team and will be pushing to get in the lineup right away. With her experience she should be able to perform at our level pretty quick.”
Currently ranked 3rd in her high school senior class, Holden is a gifted student with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. She has not yet decided her intended field of study at Cameron University.
Coach Goodwin’s other signee this year is MacArthur High School standout Kylee Johnson.
With two players already signed for the 2009-2010 season, Coach Goodwin says he will still be keeping his eye out for future additions to his squad.
“We need to get to the next level and qualify for Regionals. This will be our fifth year as a program and we have learned things as players and coaches, and know the things we need to do to get to next level,” Coach Goodwin said. “Players like Johnna are going to be the step we need to get better and to the next level. With her and Kylee coming in we hope to build off of them. They are both hard workers and with them we are going to get better.”
The Aggie women’s golf team will begin their 2009-2010 season early next September at the annual Drury University Shootout Invitational tournament at the Murder Rock Golf Club in Branson, Missouri.
