Cameron Loses in OvertimeNovember 19, 2010ALAMOSA, Colo. – For the first 40 minutes of the game, the Cameron Aggies’ women’s basketball team played Western State University even. However, Western State took control of the overtime period, outscoring the Aggies 15-8 for a 73-66 victory. The loss moves Cameron to 1-2 for the season, while this was Western State’s (1-0) opener.
Hustle and a hard fighting attitude could not overcome CU's 36 turnovers and 34 fouls. Western shot 37 free throws and even though their 59.5% was nothing impressive, they did hit 22 of them. The Aggies were 9-15 from the line. CU's leading scorer, Josie Stewart (19 points) fouled out late in the second half as did freshmen Ali Brown in the overtime period. Another four Aggies had 4 fouls each.
Stewart, an All-LSC Player from a year ago, continued to put up impressive stats, as her 19 points came on 7-of-11 shooting and 5-of-8 from the 3-point arc. Sabelle Diata contributed 11 points and Alexis Williams added 10 for the Aggies.
Western was led by Brooke Pendergraft with a game high 21 points. Three other Western players were in double figures.
The evenly matched teams each had 48 rebounds, and the game was tied 12 times with 8 lead changes. Cameron coach Tom Webb said, “It's frustrating because we played so hard, but we did not value the basketball. Until we know the importance of every possession then these kind of games happen. If we cut our turnovers in half, we win going away."
The next action for the Aggies is tomorrow night (Nov. 20) when they take on the host team, Adams State, in the 2010 Adams State Bankers Classic. Tip-off is set for 6:00 pm CST.
