CU Women's Hoops Plays OU in Exhibition

NORMAN, Okla. – As one would expect, the Oklahoma Sooners women’s basketball team dominated the Division II Cameron Aggies at Lloyd Noble Arena tonight winning 85-23. The Sooners, ranked #10 in  most pre-season polls and coming off two straight trips to the Final Four, grabbed the early lead on a lay-up by Joanna McFarland and never looked back.

The Sooners were led by All-American Danielle Robinson who had a game high 20 points on 8 of 12 shooting from the field. The Sooners had four other players in double figures and shot 42.9% from the field.

The Aggies were led by All-Lone Star Conference player Josie Stewart with 8 points.

Cameron had trouble executing their offense as the bigger and stronger Sooners created 43 turnovers for the night. On the flipside, OU committed 20 turnovers. Cameron head coach Tom Webb noted, “I thought our defense was pretty solid especially in the first half when we held them to 35 points and our rebounding was excellent. Only getting out-rebounded 6 by a caliber of ball club like OU is nothing but positive.”

“Obviously we were out-manned, but you know that when you schedule the Division I teams and OU is at the top of college women’s basketball. You take the positives away from the game and build on them trying to improve on the areas you need to in order to be successful against our regular competition during the season. This is nothing to be ashamed of.  Yes, I would have liked to put up a few more points, but this will help us for the upcoming season,” said coach Webb.

This concludes the exhibition season for the Aggies and they open up the 2010-11 basketball campaign at home on Friday, November 12 against Texas A&M International. Tip-off is at 5:00 pm in the Aggie Gym with the Cameron men’s team playing Int’l immediately after. Saturday night, the Cameron women will take on Newman University out of Wichita, Kansas at 4:00 pm and the men follow playing Oklahoma Panhandle State.
