Women's Hoops Back on Winning Track at Texas A&M-Commerce

COMMERCE, Texas – Sabelle Diata and Josie Stewart combined for 42 points and 22 rebounds to lead the Cameron Aggies (13-13, 6-6 LSC) women’s basketball team to a 86-64 victory over Texas A&M-Commerce (2-22, 0-12) to remain in Lone Star Conference playoff contention on Saturday.

Diata posted 22 points and pulled down 12 rebounds on 8 of 13 (61 percent) shooting from the field while Stewart added 20 points on 7 of 14 (50 percent) shooting and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Alexis Williams also added 20 points, going 3 of 6 (50 percent) from three-point territory.

The early goings were tight for Cameron as Commerce kept it close through the first ten minutes. However, with 11 minutes to go and the Ags up 16-14, Head Coach Tom Webb’s squad went on a 21-7 run capped by a pair of charity tosses from Ali Brown.

At the half, Cameron led 41-28.

They were also dominate in the paint in the first half, scoring 22 points to the Lions’ 14 while adding 12 second chance points to the Lions’ four.

The pedal stayed stuck to the floor in the second half as Cameron pushed its lead to as many as 28 with 15:20 to go, 59-31.

It was apparent that the Ags came to play, especially on the boards, where the outrebounded the Lions 53-35.

Cameron shot 45.9 percent (28 of 61) from the field and 38.1 percent (8 of 21) from three-point territory. The Lions connected on just 24 of 69 (34.8 percent) from the field.

The Aggies now travel to LSC North Division leader Northeastern State on Wednesday, Feb. 23. Tip off for the women’s game is set for 6 p.m.
