Two Aggie Athletes Receive Degree Completion Scholarships
July 18, 2011Lawton, OKLAHOMA ― Recent Cameron Athletes Megan Whan and Nathan Murray were recently awarded Degree Completion Scholarships from the Lone Star Conference and the NCAA, respectively.
In her final year of eligibility at Cameron, Whan posted an 84.1 stroke average in 10 events last year, with one top-20 finish at the Mahogany-UCO Classic.
Whan is one of five LSC student-athletes to be selected out of 10 applicants from the conference for the award. She was selected based on her demonstrated need, GPA, academic awards and honors, plus meaningful and consistent community involvement.
The former Aggie golfer was also required to provide a statement that outlined how she would benefit from the scholarship, why she hasn’t completed her degree yet, and how she plans to use the degree. Other considerations listed on the application were academic achievements, extracurricular activities and leadership roles on campus, and athletic accomplishments.
Murray played a pivotal role for the Aggie basketball team in his final season, starting all 28 games, averaging 8.1 points and leading the team in rebounding with seven per game.
Murray was selected by a special committee composed of representatives from NCAA D-II member institutions. The selection process from the NCAA emphasizes the academic performance of the student-athlete. Other factors considered are financial circumstances, athletic achievement and involvement in campus and community activities.
