Lone Star Conference Announces Preseason Basketball Polls
October 26, 2011DALLAS, Texas (Oct. 26, 2011) ¬¬— Cameron’s basketball coaches received their first sign from the conference that the season is on the horizon, as the Lone Star Conference released men’s and women’s basketball preseason polls.
On the men’s side, Cameron was voted in eighth place. Impact Aggies returning will be All-Conference guard, Milton Garner, All-Conference honorable mention, Vinicius Telo, and LSC North Freshman of the Year, Desmond Henry, as well as senior Thomas Razor.
“It’s about where I thought we might be picked,” said Head Coach Wade Alexander. “It’s a new league because of the realignment. It’s going to be tough break into top eight (for teams). We’ll take it and hope we can improve on it.”
The Aggie Women were voted in seventh place in the conference. This season, the Aggies will be looking to senior Sabelle Diata, coming off an All-Conference season, as well as junior Alexis Williams and Julie Paunovic, a transfer in her first year from Rutgers University. According to head coach Tom Webb, the ranking is nice but doesn’t dictate the season.
“We aren’t concerned about where anyone thinks this team will finish,” he said. “With 20 league games, it’s going to come down to who continues to improve all winter, and who really wants it. It should be a fun season.”
