Cellum Hired To Fill Vacancy In Women's Basketball
January 4, 2012LAWTON, Okla. (Jan. 4, 2012) — After weeks of searching, Athletic Director Jim Jackson announced the hiring of Justin Cellum today, to fill the void at Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach.
Cellum is a Cameron alum, receiving his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Lawton. He originally came to the university to run cross country during the 2006-2007 school year. In addition to his participation in athletics, the Tishomingo, Okla. Native was also awarded the CU Presidential Leaders and University Scholars (PLUS) scholarship from 2006-2010.
Cellum is currently in his third year on the women’s basketball staff. Since beginning as a volunteer, Cellum has also served as student assistant and graduate assistant.
Women’s Head Coach Tom Webb said Cellum’s previous time served in the program will help for a seamless transition into his new position.
“We are very blessed to have Justin join our staff,” Webb said. “Not only does he bring stability, but he understands our system and our athletes. He also understands Cameron and the city of Lawton. Justin will be huge asset to recruiting in Oklahoma. He really brings a lot of intangibles. We (Cameron) are pleased to have him and his wife, Tori, join our family.”
Webb said Cellum will serve as post coach, while also assisting in scouting, recruiting.
Cellum’s debut assistant coach will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Denton, Texas against Texas Woman’s University.
