
Paunovic, Garner Named LSC Players of the Week
January 17, 2012LAWTON—Cameron basketball standouts Julie Paunovic and Milton Garner received Lone Star Conference honors today by being named Players of the Week for the their performances in last week’s contests against Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M.
Paunovic was named Defensive Player of the week after pulling down a total of 18 rebounds between the two match-ups, in addition to her two assists, three blocks and two steals. The Cairns, Australia native was excellent on offense as well as she averaged 16.5 points per game. So far this season, Paunovic is second only behind fellow senior Sabelle Diata in all of the rebounding categories for the Aggie team and is the team leader in total points, scoring average and 3-point field goals made.
Garner earned the honor of Offensive Player of the Week after averaging 22 points per game and missing only one free throw in the entire week of play. The CU senior racked up 28 points against ENMU and 16 points against West Texas A&M. He also had seven assists and three steals. Garner currently leads the men’s squad in several statistical categories, including total points, scoring average, field goals made, 3-point field goals made and free throw percentage.
The women’s team holds a 12-2 overall record and are 8-1 in conference play, while the men are 10-3 overall and 7-1 in conference competitions. The next action for the Aggie teams will be tomorrow in Wichita Falls when the squads will do battle with Midwestern State. The women are scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m. and the men are set to follow at 8 p.m.
