Cameron Women Finish In 5th At Doc Housewright Invitational
April 10, 2012GRANBURY, Texas (April 10, 2012) — After a season low round of 305 on day one at the Doc Housewright Invitational, the Cameron Women’s Golf Team followed with a second round 310 to finish in 5th place in the tournament.
“We didn’t play as well today as we did yesterday, but we played well,” said Head Coach Rick Goodwin. “We beat the regional teams we came to beat, so that was good. There were only four teams to beat us … that’s all. We wanted to be better, but we are happy with the results.”
Jaqueline Strickland and Lindsey Alexander led the Black and Gold with identical scores of 149, tying the women for 8th place overall. Alexander got the better of Strickland on the day, shooting a 73 to Strickland’s 76. Aleesha Holden finished in sole possession of 24th place after a 78, finishing with a 155. Shelby Anderson followed with an 83 for a 162, tying her for 42nd place. Candice Swartz rounded out the scoring for CU with an 85. She finished with a 167to tie for 51st place.
“The scores aren’t as high as yesterday, but we had a couple of girls carry us to help the score,” Goodwin said. “Early in the season weren’t able to find that (one person to carry us). Today, we had two. We are improving.”
Tournament-hosts Tarleton State won the event with a 589, followed by Midwestern State with a 593. St. Edward’s and Western Texas Community College took home 3rd and 4th with a 594 and 607, respectively. Tarleton’s Sharon Lau won the individual title, besting St. Edward’s Wallis Spears in a play-off.
The women will compete in the conference tournament next week, at the Trophy Club Golf Club in Trophy Club, Texas.
