
Four Aggie Women Collect All-Conference, Academic Honors
April 19, 2012RICHARDSON, Texas – Lone Star Conference officials announced tennis All-Conference awards today. The Aggie men and women collected 15 awards in total, and senior Thomas Peixoto led the pack.
Peixoto was named the LSC’s Men’s Academic Player of the year. The Agriculture major, ranked No. 38 in the nation, has shown success both on the court and in the classroom. On top of boasting an outstanding GPA, he led the men’s squad to its 19th consecutive winning season and a No. 22 national ranking by embodying leadership at the No. 1 position.
Fellow CU standouts Mateus Campos, Julia Puckhaber and Amanda Moberg were also named to the LSC All-Academic Team.
In addition to the academic recognition, several Black and Gold players nabbed All-Conference honors. Peixoto, Duje Janjic and Nicolai Ferrigno were all named All-Conference athletes, while Campos received an Honorable Mention. Furthermore, Ferrigno was tabbed LSC Freshman of the Year. The Dane, who was recently named LSC Player of the Week, has displayed excellent skill this season and currently lays claim to a 20-6 singles record.
On the women’s side, Sara Londono, Moberg and No. 28 Puckhaber picked up All-Conference awards for singles play. Elvira Sholles, who has an incredible 22-2 record in singles, collected an Honorable Mention. Moberg and Londono claimed All-Conference recognition for their efforts as a doubles pair as well.
The Aggie men are presently 16-8 on the season, while the women have earned an amazing 21-3 record. Both tennis teams are set to compete in the LSC tournament tomorrow. Play will continue through Saturday.
