Hermansdottir named to LSC North Academic All-Conference team
March 12, 2003 RICHARDSON, Texas (March 12) - Cameron senior Signy Hermannsdottir has been named to the 2003 Lone Star Conference North Division Women's Basketball Academic All-Conference team, according to a release by conference officials on Wednesday. Hermannsdottir was one of five LSC North players picked for the team, which was voted upon by the league's sports information directors. More than a dozen other league players were named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll, including Cameron sophomore Christina Buben.A 6-2 center from Reykjavik, Iceland, Hermannsdottir is a two-time academic all-conference honoree, having won the award as a junior last season. She is also a three-time all-conference selection and was recently named to the second team of the All-Lone Star Conference North Division women's basketball squad. Hermannsdottir finished her career with the Lady Aggies as one of the most prolific rebounders in school history, pulling down 678 career boards in less than four full seasons of play. Hermannsdottir also owns school records for blocked shots in a single game and in a season. This season, she finished second on the team in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 11.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. She led the Lady Aggies and ranked among the Lone Star Conference leaders with 34 blocked shots on the season. Hermannsdottir is expected to graduate from Cameron this spring with a degree in multimedia design.
Coach Dick Halterman's Cameron squad finished the 2002-03 season with a record of 11-15 overall and 5-7 in conference play. The Lady Aggies, who last season advanced to the NCAA Division II women's basketball championships for the first time in school history, missed postseason play this year by a single game.
