Lady Aggies top Texas A&M-Commerce
December 6, 2003LAWTON, Okla. (Dec. 6) - Cameron overcame a seven-point second-half deficit and held off Texas A&M-Commerce down the stretch, turning the Lions away with a 62-57 win in Lone Star Conference crossover action on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Kimberle Woods scored a team-high 18 points, including a pair of clinching free throws with eight seconds remaining, helping the Lady Aggies improve to 3-2 on the season. Woods also posted a game-high 14 rebounds in the game.
Junior forward Christina Buben also posted a double-double for the Lady Aggies, pulling down 10 rebounds while adding 11 points. Texas A&M-Commerce was led by Hazel Woods, who scored 23 points on 10-of-19 shooting.
The Lions led much of the opening period and extended a 30-28 halftime lead to 40-33 with just under 16 minutes to play. But Cameron scored the next six points to pull within one at the 13:20 mark of the second half. A conventional three-point play by Woods then sparked an 8-0 Lady Aggie run that had Cameron up by five.
Coach Dick Halterman's squad eventually saw its lead grow to six in the final minutes of the game, but two quick buckets by the Lions made it a one-possession game. A free throw by Antonia White put the Lady Aggies up by three, however, and after a missed three-pointer by the Lions, Woods drained a pair of free throws with eight seconds to play to seal the win.
Cameron (3-2) returns to action at home on Dec. 11, hosting Texas A&M-Kingsville in Lone Star Conference crossover action at Cameron's Aggie Gym. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m., and the game will be followed by men's action at 8.
