ECU holds off Lady Aggies

The result was a 56-64 loss to East Central in Lone Star Conference North Division women's basketball action at ECU's Kerr Center.
Three players, led by freshman Tiffany Williams, scored in double-figures for the Lady Aggies, who fell to 8-10 overall and 1-2 in the LSC North. East Central remained undefeated in league play at 3-0, while improving to 9-7 overall.
Cameron returns home on Saturday to continue LSC North Division play. The Lady Aggies will host Southeastern Oklahoma State in a contest scheduled to tipoff at 2 p.m. The game will be followed by a men's matchup at 4.
Coach Dick Halterman's squad shot just over 33 percent from the field against East Central on Thursday. The Lady Aggies hit just 27 percent (9-of-33) in the first half and trailed 27-23 at intermission.
East Central didn't fare much better, hitting just 10-of-27 in the opening period and finishing with a .400 shooting percentage. But the Lady Tigers outscored Cameron 24-9 from three-point range and converted 16 of 20 free throw attempts to secure their third straight win.

Williams, a freshman product of Lawton's Eisenhower High School, paced the Cameron offense with 12 points on 4-of-10 shooting. Brittany Cooksey and Kimberle Woods, who was held to just two field goals in the game, each finished with 11. Sophomore Melisa Steen added nine points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
East Central countered with 22 points from all-conference forward Stormy Griffith. The 5-11 senior from Prague posted 14 second-half points and was a perfect 10-of-10 from the line. Lindsay Sutton added 14 for the Lady Tigers, hitting 4-of-9 three-point attempts on the night.
