Texas native Atkins signs with Aggies

LAWTON, Okla. (May 25) - Cameron women's basketball head coach Kevin Hackerott has announced the addition of Colleyville, Texas, native Megan Atkins to the Aggie roster. A transfer who redshirted last season at Angelo State University, Atkins has signed on to join the Aggies for the upcoming 2006-07 season.

A 6-2 post player, Atkins was named her team's Most Valuable Player as a senior at West Point Prep school, where she averaged 17.2 points and 9.7 rebounds while adding 3.4 blocked shots per game. She was also a three-time all-district selection at Colleyville Heritage High School, earning team MVP honors as a junior.

At the club level, Atkins was named to all-tournament teams at the Basketball Coaches International National Championships and the 2004 AAU National Championships, where she helped lead the Texas Thunder squad to the national title.

Atkins is the daughter of Craig and Sue Atkins. A member of the National Honor Society, Atkins plans to study technology and physical education at Cameron.

Cameron finished the 2005-06 season with an overall record of 15-13 while advancing to the Lone Star Conference postseason tournament. Three Aggie players earned individual postseason recognition in the league, including first team All-LSC North Division selections Brittany Cooksey and Joneatta Brown.
