New direction for Aggie WBB
March 4, 2008LAWTON, Oklahoma (March 4) – Cameron head women’s basketball coach Kevin Hackerott and assistant women’s basketball coach Andrew Belsky both tendered their resignation this morning following a 4-23 season. Cameron Athletic Director Jim Jackson officially announced the departure of the coaching staff earlier today. The team’s 2007-2008 season ended last weekend with a close loss to the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs.“I want to thank Kevin Hackerott and Andrew Belsky for their time and all their contributions to Cameron University,” Jackson said. “I wish them the best.”
Hackerott had taken over the Aggie women’s basketball team prior to the 2006-2007 season, and brought in Belsky as his assistant prior to the 2007-2008 season.
Last year the squad went 4-22 overall, with a Lone Star Conference North Division record of 2-10. This season the team finished 4-23 overall, with a divisional record of 1-11. The team finished in last place in their division each of the last two years.
“Today we are starting a new chapter in the history of our women’s basketball program,” Jackson said. “We will conduct a thorough, nation-wide search, and hope to hire someone as soon as possible.”
As mentioned previously, the Cameron women’s basketball team ended their 2007-2008 season last weekend. The team is now in the offseason training portion of their schedule.
The Lone Star Conference Championship basketball tournament kicks off in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, tomorrow afternoon.
