Storm too much for Aggie women
February 25, 2009DURANT, Oklahoma (February 25) – In their final road game of the 2008-2009 season, the Cameron Aggie women’s basketball team (6-20, 1-12 LSC North) fell to the Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm (20-6, 11-3 LSC North) by the score 70-46. The Aggies are 2-10 on the road this season and host their final game of the year this weekend. With the win SOSU secures the two-game season sweep of CU.
“We defended pretty well for a while,” Head Coach Tom Webb said. “We just couldn’t put the ball in the basket.”
Cameron recorded the game’s first lead and was able to hold on until the 17:01 mark. After the fourth and final tie of the game occurred nearly 7 minutes into the first half, Southeastern went on a 24-8 run to put the game away. The Aggies improved offensively in the second half, but it was not enough to mount the comeback.
“We played a zone and did a good job of boxing out,” Coach Webb said. “The girls were more physical tonight.”
Both teams recorded a block and 10 steals, and the Savage Storm barely out-rebounded the Aggies 42-36. CU recorded a 30.9% (17-55) shooting percentage with 20 turnovers while SOSU finished with a 46.7% (28-60) shooting percentage with 16 turnovers. Additionally, both teams committed 14 personal fouls.
Guards Kristi Taylor (senior) and Tera Tremayne (junior) both finished with a team-high 13 points on 5-10 and 4-15 shooting, respectively. Taylor also recorded 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals in a team-high 37 minutes while Tremayne contributed a team-high 8 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal, and CU’s only block in 34 minutes.
Taylor and Tremayne were the only Aggies and two of only three players to score in double-digits tonight”
Junior post Caeti Radley had a nice night under the boards with 7 rebounds. She also had 2 points on 1-5 shooting and a pair of steals in 30 minutes.
“It’s the end of the first year and we want to finish it out with a win this weekend,” Coach Webb said. “We want to play hard like we have done all year, and send Kristi Taylor out with a bang.”
The Aggie women conclude their season this Saturday (February 28) at 2:00pm in the Aggie Gym against the East Central Tigers. A “Senior Day” ceremony honoring the aforementioned Kristi Taylor will precede this weekend’s season finale.
