Webb signs trio to Aggie squadMay 22, 2008LAWTON, Oklahoma (May 22) – Cameron University’s new women’s basketball head coach Tom Webb today announced the signing of three student-athletes to the 2008-2009 Aggie squad. In his first round of signings, Webb has added Tera Tremayne, Amber Schroer, and Lawton-native Gabby Walk. Tremayne and Schroer will enter next fall as juniors, while Walk will be a freshman.
“All three young ladies are winners, competitors, and great people,” Coach Webb said. “Anytime you can sign players who are proven winners on and off the court you know they will make an immediate impact on the program.”
Tremayne is a 5’6” guard from Battle Mountain, Nevada. She is transferring to Cameron from the College of Southern Idaho (Twin Falls, Idaho) where she was a member of the Golden Eagles. In her two seasons at CSI, Tremayne led her team to a 57-10 record and a 6th place finish in the 2008 NJCAA National Championship tournament. Last season she averaged 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists per game.
“Tera played at a very high level of basketball the last two seasons, and played for an excellent coach in Randy Rogers,” Coach Webb said. “Coach Rogers is a great teacher of the game and a disciplinarian.”
In high school Tremayne established herself as one of the top players in the entire state of Nevada. As the all-time leading three-point shooter in Nevada high school history, she currently holds records for career three-pointers (247) and three-pointers in a season (98). Tremayne is also a three-time All-State MVP and led her team to two Nevada state championships.
“Tera can flat out shoot the basketball,” Coach Webb said. “She is such a tough kid and a proven winner at every level. She will bring experience, toughness, and a scoring mentality to the floor every day.”
Schroer is a 6’1” post player who hails from Strong City, Kansas. She is transferring to CU from Hutchinson Community College (Hutchinson, Kansas) where she led the Blue Dragons to a 44-13 record over two seasons. Last season Schroer averaged 7 points and 7 rebounds, and was named to the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) All-Conference Honorable Mention team.
“Amber is the ideal post player for our style of play,” Coach Webb said. “Her ability to run the floor, play inside and out, and rebound the basketball allows her to play the 4 and the 5. She is a great defender inside and we are very excited about the impact she is going to make here at Cameron.”
Webb’s final signing this round is 5’7” point guard Gabby Walk, a homegrown product from Lawton. Walk graduated high school from Lawton Christian Academy in 2007 before accepting a basketball scholarship to Oral Roberts University (Tulsa). Walk was redshirted last season by the ORU Golden Eagles and will have four years of eligibility with the Aggie women.
“We are thrilled about Gabby returning to Lawton and competing for the Aggie basketball program,” Coach Webb said. “She is an explosive point guard that can handle it, pass it, get to the rim, and put pressure on the ball defensively.”
While at LCA, Walk was awarded Oklahoma Christian Schools Athletic Association (OCSAA) All-State honors and was named to the Sooner Christian Conference All-Conference team. She also nearly averaged a quadruple-double with 21 points, 10 rebounds, 8 steals, and 8 assists. Additionally, Walk led her Lawton Christian squad to a state runner-up finish in the OSCAA Class 2-A.
“Gabby’s personality and physical skills will allow her to excel in our system and in our style of play,” Coach Webb.
Tremayne, Schroer, and Walk will all begin taking classes at Cameron University this fall. The Cameron Aggie women’s basketball team begins their season next November.
