Aggies pound Saints 101-59
November 30, 2009LAWTON, Oklahoma (November 30) – The Cameron Aggie women’s basketball team looked sharp all night as they pounded the Hillsdale Free Will Baptist Saints 101-59. They scored on their first possession of the game and remained in control the rest of the way. The last time the Aggie women scored 100 or more points in a game was a 104-69 win over Langston College during the 1986-1987 season.
“I was really pleased with how we played tonight,” Head Coach Tom Webb said. “At times we lost focus but as a whole it was good.”
The Black and Gold had a field day shooting the ball as they had six players score in double digits tonight and as a team shot 45.9% from the field.
Cameron had a record setting night by breaking two school records. They broke the record for most three pointers made in a game with 16 three pointers tonight in Aggie Gym. They beat the previous record of 11 set against USAO on February 3, 2000.
The Aggies also broke the largest win record tonight by beating the Saints by 42 points tonight. The former record was 36 points against Paul Quinn College on December 10, 1999.
Freshman guard Jordan Kauk led the Aggies in scoring tonight with 19 points as she shot 7-9 from the field and light it up from long range going 4-5 from behind the arc.
Guard Lyndie NeVille also shot outstanding from behind the arc going 4-5. Her 16 points on 6-14 shooting was second for the Aggie women tonight. Her 9 assists and 6 steals in 20 minutes played was a big part in tonight’s win as well.
Junior guard Luv Rattler scored 13 points on 3-7 shooting from the field and 7-8 from the free throw line. Rattler also contributed a team-high 10 assists to complete a double-double. She also added 5 rebounds in her 22 minutes.
“The freshmen played really well tonight, especially Jordan and Brittany,” Webb said. “But it was a team effort tonight as everybody had a solid game.”
The Aggies also won the rebound battle tonight 53-37 and dominated the offensive rebounding 22-9 and won the defensive rebounding 31-28.
Newcomers to the team Jessica Priest and Josie Stewart led the team in rebounds with 7 a piece.
The Aggie women played really well on the defensive side of the ball tonight as they grabbed a season-high 19 steals.
This Thursday (December 3) both the men and women’s basketball teams will travel to Abilene, Texas to face the Wildcats in a Lone Star Conference Crossover game. The Aggie women tip off with ACU at 6:00pm.
“We’re excited to get on the road to play a Crossover game; we’re looking forward to seeing where we are at and to get ready for the North (Division play),” Webb said. “We’re seeing progress as a team and we’re looking to move forward in the right direction as a program.”
