Aggies ground Jets
November 25, 2008WICHITA, Kansas (November 25) – Junior post Amber Schroer had a very impressive game tonight as her double-double led CU to their third victory of the season. The Cameron Aggie women's basketball team (3-2, 0-0 LSC North) moved back above .500 on the season with a 56-47 victory over the Jets of Newman University (1-3, 0-0 MIAA). Cameron outscored Newman in both halves.
The Aggies went into halftime with a 21-20 lead, and outscored the Jets 35-27 in the second frame. Cameron recorded a 28.0% shooting percentage, but was out-rebounded 62-40. Newman recorded a 23.1% shooting percentage in the contest.
With only 14 field goals as a team, Cameron was once again able to rely on their solid free throw shooting to lead them to victory. The team sunk 23-36 (63.9%) from the free throw line. CU won the turnover battle 17-25, and also committed less personal fouls than NU, 27-25.
The aforementioned Aggie-leader tonight, Amber Schroer, recorded 13 points on 4-12 shooting with a game-high 14 rebounds. She also recorded a steal and the team’s only block in 30 minutes on the floor.
Junior guard Tera Tremayne led the Aggies offensively tonight with a game-high 20 points on 6-13 shooting. She also contributed 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and an assist in 38 minutes of play.
CU’s other player to record double-digit scoring numbers was redshirt-freshman guard Gabby Walk. Walk recorded 12 points on 2-3 shooting, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals in 29 minutes. She led the team from the free throw line after making 8-12 foul shots.
The Aggie women next travel to Kingsville, Texas, on Saturday, December 6, to take on the Javelinas of Texas A&M-Kingsville at 5:00pm. The Aggie women’s basketball team’s home opener is scheduled for Monday, December 8, at 6:00pm against the same Jets of Newman University.
Throughout the CU-NU rematch on December 8, the NCAA’s official basketball mascot “J.J. Jumper” will be on hand to entertain the crowd and cheer on the Aggies. J.J. Jumper only makes a few select guest appearances each basketball season, so fans are encouraged to come out to Aggie Gym for all of the evening’s planned entertainment.
