CANYON, Texas – Despite a fifth inning rally the Aggies could not withstand a late Midwestern State grand slam as they fell 12-8 in the opening round of Lone Star Conference tournament.
 
The Aggies rallied back from a five run deficit to take an 8-5 lead over the Mustangs in the fifth inning. Prior to the rally, Cameron only recorded one hit in the first inning, but the Aggies manufactured eight hits including two doubles cycling through their lineup.
 
MSU would tie the game at 8-8 in the top of the sixth scoring three runs on two doubles. In the top of the seventh with two outs and bases loaded, the Mustangs would hit a grand slam for the 12-8 advantage.
 
The Aggies could not capitalize in the bottom of the seventh to strand two runners on base and one in scoring position to fall 12-8 in the opening game.
 
MSU out-hit the Aggies 14 to nine with Sonora Zukerman (11-7) being charged with the loss in the circle after facing 23 batters in four innings allowing eight runs. CU's starter Emily Wasinger pitched the first three innings allowing four hits and five runs, two were earned.
 
Cameron drops to 33-21 overall while MSU advances to 30-27 and the LSC semi-finals.
 
With a No. 7 ranking in the South Central Region, the Aggies' postseason fate will rest on with the NCAA Selection Committee who will release the 64 team field on Monday at 9 a.m. at NCAA.com.
