As a student at Cameron, Jackie Martin earned an impressive six letters as a part of Aggie Athletics. Martin was the cornerstone of the Aggie football team, playing as the starting quarterback, defensive end, punter and extra point kicker. In addition to his talents on the gridiron, Martin was also a gifted basketball guard who helped to lead the basketball team to a #1 national ranking in 1958. That team was the first ever to enter the National Junior College Tournament undefeated. Further illustrating his many athletic talents, Martin was the starting catcher for the Aggie baseball program in 1957 and a starting right fielder in 1958. Some awards earned by Martin during his time at Cameron include: Outstanding Freshman Athlete in 1957, Outstanding Sophomore Athlete in 1958 and voted Most Popular Football Player in 1958.
