CU runners place 13th at NCAA South Central Regional

CANYON, Texas – The Cameron University cross country team limped to a 13th place finish with 370 points as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) dominated the NCAA South Central Regional taking five of the six automatic qualifiers to the National Championships.

Race Results

Last season's national and regional champion, Adams State took top billing with 31 points; West Texas A&M was the only Lone Star Conference team to advance with a fifth place finish.

"Overall the race was okay," said head coach Casey Kreger. "We didn't finish where we wanted to but it was a step forward from last year's finish…we had some issues today dealing with injuries that have set us back the last half of the season."

"With the gain in elevation and the RMAC schools coming down from 5000 plus feet it made for a tough race."

The Aggies had several runners dealing with various ailments that set the team back from their overall goals of making the top six.

Thomas Toth continued to pace the CU runners with a 32nd place finish in the 10k at 31:38. The surprise was Methuselah Lagat who was CU second highest finisher at 72nd place with a time of 33:15.

Cody Campbell was three slots back of Lagat with a time at 33:20, Steve Orwell placed 93rd (33:50), and Janis Pastars finished 98th (34:10). Kilian Schreiner rounded out the CU group with a 117th place finish.

"We had a successful season at meets and in the rankings this year but we know what we need to do to improve on next year's season," added Kreger.

"Right now we need rest and recovery until we start to train for our exhibition spring season which will kick off in March."
