JOPLIN, Mo. – The Cameron University cross country team continued to impress with having five runners finish an eight kilometer race under 27 minutes for the first time in program history at the Southern Stampede.

"The race was a good start for the second one of the season and our first eight kilometer run," said head coach Casey Kreger. "The team did well with running close together and pushing each other. It was a step forward from our first meet and we are still working to get some guys back into shape from some injures."
"We are optimistic and will keep getting better each week. Thomas (Toth) ran a great race working his way up each mile and beat the entire Oklahoma team."
Cameron finished the race in 10
th place with 213 points running a team time of 2:11:05.49, one point back of East Central. Meet host Missouri Southern State won the overall event with 56 points and a total team of 2:06:30.42.
Toth led the Aggies with a fourth place finish, running the 8000m race at 24:51. His time was third on the CU all-time list.
Janis Pastars came away with a 28
th place finish (25:54.18),
Cody Campbell placed 66
th (26:37.86), and Kilian Schreiner in his first race finished in 75
th (26:46.96).
Steve Orwell came away with an 86
th place finish, while
Methuselah Lagat placed 92
nd. Rounding out the Aggie group was
Cole Atchinson who finished 149
th and
Antonio Moreno placing 153
rd.
The Aggies will have a week off before traveling to Stillwater for the Oklahoma State Jamboree on Sept. 28.
