Toth leads Cameron at the Southern Stampede

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Cameron University cross country team continued to impress with having five runners finish an eight kilometer race under 27 minutes for the first time in program history at the Southern Stampede.

Race Results

"The race was a good start for the second one of the season and our first eight kilometer run," said head coach Casey Kreger. "The team did well with running close together and pushing each other. It was a step forward from our first meet and we are still working to get some guys back into shape from some injures."

"We are optimistic and will keep getting better each week. Thomas (Toth) ran a great race working his way up each mile and beat the entire Oklahoma team."

Cameron finished the race in 10th place with 213 points running a team time of 2:11:05.49, one point back of East Central. Meet host Missouri Southern State won the overall event with 56 points and a total team of 2:06:30.42.

Toth led the Aggies with a fourth place finish, running the 8000m race at 24:51. His time was third on the CU all-time list. Janis Pastars came away with a 28th place finish (25:54.18), Cody Campbell placed 66th (26:37.86), and Kilian Schreiner in his first race finished in 75th (26:46.96).

Steve Orwell came away with an 86th place finish, while Methuselah Lagat placed 92nd. Rounding out the Aggie group was Cole Atchinson who finished 149th and Antonio Moreno placing 153rd.

The Aggies will have a week off before traveling to Stillwater for the Oklahoma State Jamboree on Sept. 28.
