Josh Cobble

Josh Cobble was named the head coach of the Cameron men's and women's tennis programs in January of 2017.

Cobble led both Aggie squads to the NCAA postseason for the first time since 2016. The women had a huge turnaround, going from just 10 wins in the previous two seasons to 21 in 2022 with a LSC Co-Championship and South Central Regional Championship on their resume.  They were ranked inside the top-10 by the ITA for most of the year, finishing at No. 11. Cobble earned LSC and Regional Coach of the Year honors and freshman Anastasia Uspenskaia picked up both Freshman of the Year honors.

In 2022, Cobble's men were consistent all season and earned the 3-seed in the South Central Region before beating rival Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, Texas to advance to the Sweet 16 in Florida. CU's men were led by LSC Newcomer of the Year Tomas Almeida and LSC and regional Freshman of the Year Thomas Cardona, who was perfect in Division II play.

Despite many obstacles in 2021, Cobble led the Cameron men to another South Central Regional Championship, beating St. Mary's 4-0. The win advanced the Aggies to the Elite Eight, where their season ended at the hands of the No. 1 ranked Columbus State. They finished the year ranked No. 27 in the nation and No. 2 in the region by the ITA. Additionally, both programs were named ITA All-Academic teams for the year.

Under Cobble's direction, the 2018-19 men's tennis team put together won of the best turnarounds in program history. Led by ITA All-Americans Vinicius Santos and Julen Gutierrez, the Aggies went from just nine wins in 2017-18 to a 19-5 record with a perfect 3-0 league mark to claim the Lone Star Conference regular season title. After losing to MSU in the league tournament final, Cobble's men defeated St. Edward's to claim to South Central Regional Championship, making it to the round of 16, where they would lose to the sixth ranked West Florida Argos. CU finished with a No. 15 ranking and Cobble was named the ITA National Coach of the Year. Cameron was on the same path to start the 2019-2020 season before the COVID-19 pandemic put a halt to the spring.

Cobble spent seven years as the head coach at Cowley College where he led the Tigers men's and women's tennis teams to region titles in 2011 and 2012. In 2013, the men's team made it three straight region titles, while the women's team placed second in the region; the Cowley men went on to finish 10th nationally, while the women placed 11th at the national tournament. In 2014, both of his teams won region VI titles and each finished in fourth at nationals.  He stepped down from coaching in 2015, and took over the role of Executive Director of Enrollment Management at Cowley.

Some personal and team achievements of Cobble include being named the Wilson/ITA Men's National Tennis Coach of the Year in 2012 and the Wilson/ITA Women's National Tennis Coach of the Year in 2011, his teams have included 22 All-Americans, four national finalists, 14 national semi-finalists, 34 Region VI champions, and one national champion, coaching four NJCAA Academic All-Americans, 21 ITA Scholar-Athletes, 14 top-10 ranked singles players, and nine top-10 ranked doubles teams, Cobble's teams had a career team GPA of 3.14, and he won the Cowley College Young Achieve Award in 2012.

Prior to coaching at Cowley, Cobble helped coach the Duncan High School boys’ tennis team to a state title and the girls to a state runner-up finish in 2007.

Cobble spent two seasons playing for the Tigers, where he advanced to the finals of the national tournament as a freshman, and reached the semifinals in doubles as a sophomore. He then went on to play for James Helvey at Cameron for two seasons.
