Lawson’s 29 Kills Not Enough Friday Night

ODESSA, Texas – Junior Adrienne Lawson had 11 kills Friday morning and turned around and pounded down 18 more in the nightcap, but it wasn’t enough for the Cameron volleyball team as it fell to Fort Hays State and Panhandle State.

The Aggies lost in four sets to FHSU (25-21, 21-25, 22-25, 20-25) with freshman Megan Olivarez smacking a team-best 14 kills. Lawson also had her seventh double-double of the season, as she added 16 digs.

Freshman Jenna Risoli also helped Cameron’s offense with what was then a season-high 35 assists. The Frisco, Texas, native also added 13 digs to her effort and one of the Aggies’ 14 assisted blocks.

In the nightcap, Cameron again jumped on top first with set one win. However, Panhandle State took the next three games to push Cameron’s record to 6-9, while improving its own to 6-12.

On defense, junior’s Filly Ezenwa and Amanda Filiaga combined to block six shots, with each picking up a solo shot. As a team, the Aggies had seven blocks on the afternoon, with junior’s Nikita Abbott and Sarah Corbett also picking up two assisted blocks.

Cameron will be back in action Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m., as it takes on host UT-Permian Basin. The Aggies bested UTPB earlier the season at Tarleton State in five sets.
