Aggies Smack 26 Kills and EMU

PORTALES, N.M. – Freshman Megan Olivarez and junior Adrienne Lawson combined for 14 kills Saturday night at Eastern New Mexico. The Aggies however couldn’t get the Lone Star Conference win, as they fell in straight sets (17-25, 18-25, 17-25).

After falling down early in the first set, Cameron (7-12, 2-4) was able to bounce back and grab a one point lead (6-5). The Zias (9-10, 2-4) used an 8-3 run midway through the game to retain the lead, as Cameron couldn’t get closer than five.

The Aggies clawed and scratched their way back into the second set, as they used a 7-2 run late to get within two. Lawson and freshman Jenna Keller helped pace Cameron’s offense with five of the teams nine kills.

Early in the final set both teams went back and forth until ENMU went on a 10-3 run halfway into the game. Olivarez and Keeler both had assisted blocks, while freshman Jenna Risoli and junior Amanda Filiaga each had a service ace.

For the match, Olivarez led the team with eight kills and 11 digs, while Risoli topped Cameron with 15 assists.

The Aggies’ next action will be Thursday at home against Angelo State with first serve set for 7 p.m.
