CANYON, Texas – The Cameron Aggies’ women’s basketball team (1-5) fell to Lonestar Conference rival and homestanding No. 12 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs (3-1), 70-61, on Thursday night in the First United Bank Center.
Junior Sabelle Diata scored 28 points and added nine boards and tied a school record in the process. According to school records, Jackie Copeland attempted 23 shots against Southwestern Oklahoma on Feb. 28, 1985. With her 13-of-23 night against WT, Diata tied the 25 year old record.

However, a Jamie Simmons layup with 8:54 to go in the first gave WT the lead, and they never looked back. The back-and-forth game featured eight lead changes and WT lead by as many as 15 before the Aggies began a rally in the second half to chip away at the lead.
Junior Shadara Hampton was able to cut the margin to single digits with a layup with 1:25 to go before Stewart added back-to-back free throws, cutting the lead to seven.
The Aggies return to action Saturday, Dec. 4, when they travel to Portales, N.M., to take on Eastern New Mexico in another LSC showdown. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Greyhound Arena.
