Aggies Win an Exciting Five Set Match

LAWTON, Okla. – Junior Adrienne Lawson’s 18th kill was her biggest, as it was the match winner for the Cameron volleyball team Tuesday night against Southern Arkansas (21-25, 25-17, 25-23, 26-28, 15-13).

In the first set Cameron (3-5) was led by freshman Megan Olivarez, who had five of her game-high 20 kills. However, errors proved to be costly for the Aggies, as the squad had nine combined between attacks, serves and receptions.

Cameron was able to shake off the game one disappointment, as it was hit .429 and had four kills and two service aces from Lawson in set two. Also chipping in on the offense was Olivarez, who also had two aces and three kills.

The third set was close early (10-9), but a 6-1 run put distance between the Aggies and Muleriders. SAU (3-3) was able to bounce back and bring it back within one, but Cameron had a defensive stand and pulled out the win.

Set number four also was neck-and-neck, as the teams moved past the set ending 25 points with the Muleriders picking up the win forcing a fifth set. Lawson again led Cameron offense charge with eight kills and a block assist.

Down by two in the fifth set (9-11) freshman Jenna Keller came up with a big kill, which sparked a 5-2 match ending run. Junior Sarah Corbett also was huge in the final points, as the Manteca, Calif., native had a block assist and kill to help in the win.

Cameron’s next action will be Thursday at Lone Star Conference foe East Central with first serve set for 7 p.m.
