Lawson Smacks Nine Kills Against UIW

LAWTON, Okla. – Senior Valerie Ogle had 14 assists and 11 digs Saturday afternoon for her third double-double, but the Cameron volleyball team fell to Lone Star Conference newcomer Incarnate Word in straight sets (21-25, 20-25, 22-25).

The Aggies (5-7, 2-2) and Cardinals went back and forth early in set one, but a 6-0 run by UIW was for downfall for Cameron. The Aggies, meanwhile, tried to make a comeback, bringing the game back within two (20-18), but they wouldn’t get any closer.

During the second set, Cameron was down 14-9, but a fierce rally got the Aggies closer, as freshman Megan Olivarez had two kills during a 5-2 run. Also helping the Aggie offense was junior Amanda Filiaga, who smacked down two kills as well.

Both teams continued to play even during the third set with Cameron springing to a three point lead (14-11) midway through. However, the advantage was erased in part to a 9-3 run by the Cardinals (5-8, 2-2).

For the game, Cameron’s offense was led by junior Adrienne Lawson, who  had nine kills, while Filiaga added eight. Freshman Jenna Risoli had 14 assists, as she now has 214 sets to lead Cameron.

The next action for Cameron is Tuesday when Mid-American comes to the Aggie Gym for a 7 p.m. first serve.
