Volleyball Takes Three Straight From Mid-America

LAWTON, Okla. – Led by freshman Megan Olivarez’s match-high 13 kills and classmate Jenna Risoli’s team-best 26 assists, the Cameron volleyball team swept Mid-America (34-32, 25-12, 25-15) Tuesday night at the Aggie Gym.

Cameron came back from the brink of a set one defeat eight times, as the Aggies scored three straight points to get the win. After MACU scored to make it 32-31, the Evangels had three consecutive attack errors to help give Cameron the win.

The Aggies quickly put distance between themselves and the Evangels -- jumping to an 11-5 lead after a rare kill by Risoli. Cameron ended the set with a 9-4 run, thanks in part to Amber Schroer’s two kills and six attack errors by MACU.

Another big run (10-3) for Cameron late in the match helped to end its two game skid and move closer to the .500 mark. In the set, Olivarez had a game-high five kills, while junior Amanda Filiaga added three.

For the match, Cameron had five blocks and forced MACU into five reception errors, as freshman Mariah Westlake had three aces. Sophomore Joanie Duberly also added two aces in the second set.

Cameron’s next action is Friday and Saturday at the UT-Permian Basin Crossover Tournament. Live stats will be available for only the match against UTPB on Saturday afternoon http://athletics.utpb.edu/watch-home-games-live/.
