Lawton, Okla. (Oct. 15, 2011) — Cross Country had an impressive 20th place finish today in the University of Arkansas- Chili Pepper Festival, running against a number of nationally ranked Division I teams.
“That’s pretty good considering the teams that were there,” Head Coach Matt Aguero said. “Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Arkansas are all top-15 teams. Twentieth is our best finish here. Last year we came in 22nd.”
Freshman Hillary Kirwa led Cameron on the 10K course with a time of 30:37.01, breaking David Chirchir’s school record of 30:37.03 set at the 2006 National Championships. Junior Moses Kipkosgei came in 133rd for the Aggies with a time of 32:17.60, followed by freshman Alfonso Loyoza in 169th with a 33:15.60.
Freshman Tyler Jacobs finished with a time of 33:59.90, for 192nd place. Senior Brian Mulwo finished with a time of 34:21.30, followed by sophomore Marcus Trevino with a 34:45.10, freshman Antonio Moreno with a 35:41.80, sophomore Krzyzsztof Szcepinski with a 35:50.20 and freshman Nathan Durst with a 36:38.50.
“Everybody ran pretty well today,” Aguero said. “A couple of guys need to run better to reach our goals, but we have a good idea of where we are going into conference (meet).”
The team will compete in the Lone Star Conference Regional Meet next week in San Angelo, Texas.
“I feel good about it,” the coach said. “We’ve got a good shot at winning.”
