Kirwa Places Fourth At Conference Meet

Lawton, Okla. (Oct. 20, 2011) — Freshman Hillary Kirwa finished in fourth place Saturday at the Lone Star Conference Meet, hosted by Angelo State with a time of 25:19. The fourth place finish was good enough to help name Kirwa to the All-Conference Team.

“Hillary (Kirwa) has been great all year,” said Head Coach Matt Aguero. “He has been one of the best runners all year, and he is a freshman.”

As a team Cameron failed to hit its stride, completing the course in a total time of 2:15:18, good for eighth place.

“It was a little windy but the push was really good,” Aguero said. “Hillary ran well but other than that we didn’t perform very well.”

Freshman Alfonso Lozoya came in second for the Black and Gold with a time of 26:48, followed by senior Brian Mulwo with a 27:27. Sophomore Eli Hernandez was close behind Mulwo with a 27:35, followed by senior Julius Korir who posted a 28:09 in his season debut. The rest of the team finished as follows: junior Moses Kipkosgei, 28:12; freshman Tyler Jacobs, 28:24; sophomore Krzysztof Szczepinski, 28:33; sophomore Marcus Trevino, 28:49; and freshman Antonio Moreno, 29:41.

The team will now take a week off in preparation for the NCAA Division-II South Central Meet in Wichita Falls, Texas.
