Aggies Fall to USAO

Box Score

LAWTON—Cameron University’s men’s basketball team faced off against the University of the Sciences and Arts on Saturday and fell in a 99-82 decision.

Head Coach Wade Alexander acknowledged his opponent’s were stronger in certain areas of the game, but said his men didn’t do the things they needed to do.

“We got down early. We tried to press, but they were too quick. We didn’t shoot well in the first half either,” Alexander said. “Going in to the game we had to defend well, take care of the ball and rebound. As the scoreboard showed, we only did one of those things. That’s not good enough.”

The Aggies could not find a way to stop senior Kyle Hunt who led the Drovers offensively and defensively. The 6’8 post had a double-double, putting up 19 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.  Phillip Harris and Brandon Cutler also did well for USAO, knocking down 16 and 13 points respectively.

CU’s Milt Garner did his best to try to put his team ahead by scoring some 26 points. Vinicius Telo and Thomas Razor managed to find their way to the basket as well. The Brazilian had 18 points for the Aggies, and Razor put away 15.

Defensively, the Black and Gold saw good results from Desmond Henry and Dole Kutey. Henry pulled down 10 rebounds in addition to his nine points, while Kutey had six rebounds.

Alexander said he was pleased with Henry and Kutey’s performances.

“Dez [Desmond Henry] played pretty well. And Dole gave us a good lift. That really helps our bench,” Alexander said.

The Aggie coach admitted being uneasy about the match-up with USAO beforehand.

“I didn’t feel good about this match going into it because we had a bad week of practice,” Alexander said. “I take responsibility for that, but we have to get better and learn from this.”

The CU men are now 3-2 on the season. The squad will see its next home action on Dec. 3 when the Aggie women and men take on Texas A&M Commerce at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. in the Aggie Gym.
