Cameron Men Complete Sweep At ACU

Box Score

LAWTON, Okla. (Dec. 10, 2011) ― Cameron’s men’s basketball team completed the sweep in Abilene Saturday night, defeating the Wildcats 64-58 to improve to a 3-1 conference record.

The Wildcats (5-3, 0-1) came out explosive on their home court, pulling ahead 15-5 with 14:54 left in the first, but Cameron (5-3, 3-1) would battle back with a strong first half from senior Milton Garner to pull to within seven at the half, 30-23. Garner finished the game with a team-high 20 points.

“Well we got in a little foul trouble in the first half and didn’t execute very well, but overall we didn’t play bad” said Head Coach Wade Alexander. “We came in down seven, but it wasn’t a panic. We had experience going into that situation.”

Cameron came out battling in the second half and by the seven-minute mark, had its first lead. From there, Cameron imposed its will and wore down ACU with a 15-10 run down the stretch to seal the game and conference victory.

“In the end, we had a little more experience in last second games than they did,” he said. “We were able to overcome more things to finish the game off. When we go on the road, hope to keep close until the end and squeak it out; we definitely did that. We always want to be in striking distance; we’d like to blow them (opponents) out but that’s just not going to happen in the Lone Star Conference.”

Garner led offensively with 20 points, followed by junior Vinicius Telo with 13 points.

The Aggies will now prepare for a contest against Incarnate Word (6-4, 2-2) team. The game will tip-off at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Aggie Gym.
