LAWTON—The Cameron University men’s basketball team dominated Texas A&M Commerce Saturday afternoon in what turned out to be a very one-sided game. The Aggies defeated the Lions handily with an 81-58 thumping.

Junior Vinicius Telo and senior Milton “Milt” Garner were phenomenal in the contest and led the Black and Gold in scoring as a result of their outstanding offensive performances. The 6’8 Brazilian put away some 25 points, while the veteran Garner bucketed 21 points. Both had more than double the number of points than the highest scorer for the Lions’ Devondrick Walker who had just nine.

Defensively, CU newcomer Dol Kutey was critical for the Cameron men. The junior worked hard to come away with seven rebounds, the most of any Aggie in the conference match-up.

Men’s basketball coach Wade Alexander said Kutey’s defensive prowess did not go unnoticed.

“Dol did a good job rebounding. Getting seven boards in 15 minutes gave us what we needed,” Alexander said.

Sophomore Craig Foster saw his first action of the season in today’s game. Alexander had intended to redshirt Foster, but decided he was too valuable to stay on the sidelines for the rest of the year.

“We needed an extra dribbler out there to take some pressure off Milt. Craig helped do that today,” Alexander said. “Milt’s numbers were tremendous compared to what we’ve been getting.”

Today’s game marks the first Lone Star Conference victory for the CU men so far this season. The team now holds a 4-3 record and is 1-1 in conference play.

The men will see action again on Wednesday, Dec. 7 when they face off against Angelo State at 8 p.m. in the Aggie Gym. They will be preceded by the Cameron women who are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
