Cameron Men Turn Away Rams

Box Score

LAWTON, Okla. (Nov. 30, 2011) ― Cameron butted horns with the Rams Wednesday night in the Aggie Gym and came out victorious, 67-64, in a thriller.

“It was a close one,” said Head Coach Wade Alexander. “We really had to try to slow them down defensively. Their number two came in averaging 25 points a game … we held him to two. We decided to try to make someone else beat us, and they almost did.”

The game came down to the final minutes, as the Rams (6-3, 0-1) carried a five point lead at the 5:51 mark, but the Cameron (5-3, 2-1) would go on a 12-2 over the next five minutes to pull ahead 66-61 with 34 seconds left. Angelo  pull to within two with 21 seconds on a three-point play by Reggie Brice, but fittingly, senior Milton Garner sealed the game for the Black and Gold, making one of two from the line to end the game at 67-64.

“A big key to the game was us having only 10 turnovers; they had 20,” Alexander said. “That probably won us the game. We didn’t do well in rebounding … we could do better in that area.”

The Aggies came out firing in the first half, pulling ahead by 15, 22-7, midway though. Angelo was able to pull to within 12 at the buzzer. Junior Devon Crabtree was the spark, helping the team to heat up the net. Crabtree stepped back to nail two deep, momentum building threes in the half. He finished with nine points on 3-7 shooting.

Junior Vinicius Telo led Cameron with a dominant 30 points on 8-15 shooting and 15-19 from the line, many of which came down the stretch.

“Telo played well; Devon didn’t play a lot of minutes but hit three huge threes,” the coach said. “Offensively, we just don’t worry too much. We have certain guys we want to get the ball to and we play off those guys. We feel like we can win games defensively.”

The Aggies will now shift their focus to a tough Abilene Christian (5-2, 0-0) team. Cameron will travel to Abilene for a 7 p.m. Saturday tip-off.
