Sabelle Diata posted 16 points and 14 rebounds

LAWTON, Okla. – Sabelle Diata scored 16 points and pulled down 14 rebounds but it wasn’t enough as the Cameron Aggies women’s basketball team (11-12, 4-5) fell on the road to Lone Star Conference North Division rivals, Pioneers of Texas Woman’s University.

The Aggies jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead with 13:46 to go in the first but saw the Pioneers rally to a quick 9-8 lead on a Jessica Hannah jumper.

Alexis Williams added a pair to put the Aggies back in the lead at 18-17 with 1:48 to go before Kayla Weaver converted the three point play with four seconds remaining to send the Pioneers into the break up 21-18.

In the first half, the Aggies were able to add 10 of their points on second chances but gave up as many on turnovers.

The second half saw the home squad jump out to a 10 point lead which they never relinquished.

Head Coach Tom Webb’s squad chipped away at the lead, drawing to within five, but was never able to completely erase the deficit.

TWU’s Jeanee’ Thompson put down a pair of charity tosses to put the game away at 54-39.

For the game, the Aggies shot a season low 24.6 percent (14 of 57) and were blanked for long range (0 of 12). The Pioneers shot at a 37.7 percent clip (20 of 53) and had slightly better luck from behind the arc, hitting 4 of 14 (28.6 percent).

TWU won the battle on the glass 43-40 and were chippy on defense, stealing the ball nine times compared to six for Cameron.

The Aggies will return to the court on Monday, Feb. 14 to take on LSC North foe East Central in a rescheduled contest with LSC playoff implications. Tip off for the game, proudly presented by EZ-Go, is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Aggie Gym
