Aggie Women Fall at Home to Savage Storm, 70-67

LAWTON, Okla. – Sabelle Diata scored 23 points and pulled down 16 rebounds but it wasn’t enough as the Cameron Aggies women’s basketball team (12-13, 5-6) was beaten at home on Wednesday by Lone Star Conference rival Southeastern Oklahoma, 70-67.

The Aggies had the final shot of the game but it sailed just to the left of the bucket as time expired.

The Savage Storm jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead on a trio of three-point jumpers, but Cameron rallied on a 16-6 run to take their first lead of the game at 16-15 with 10:43 to go.

A nine point lead evaporated quickly for the Aggies as the half came to a close and Cameron went into the break up four at 28-24.

After the half, Southeastern kept the heat on and took their final lead of the game with 7:50 at 54-51.

As the game drew to a close, the Aggies were able to put the Savage Storm in uncomfortable inbounds situations on more than one occasion and were helped by a pair of missed charity tosses from Southeastern’s Nikki Nester. They were unable to convert and force overtime, however, in a crucial LSC game with playoff implications.

Diata was one of three Aggies to go into double figures as Josie Stewart and Alexis Williams both continued their high scoring streaks. Stewart added 16 points on 6 of 10 (60 percent) shooting while Williams added 13 on 5 of 14 (35.7 percent) shooting.

Whitney Coffey led Southeastern in scoring with 13 points on 5 of 8 (62.5) shooting.

Cameron returns to the hardwood Saturday, Feb. 19 with a trip to Texas A&M-Commerce. Tip off is set for 2 p.m.
