Lawton, Okla. (Sept. 13, 2011) ¬¬— Cameron’s Brady Porter followed up his first round 66 at the Diamondback Golf Club with a 71 to finish in third place at the Coody/West Texas Intercollegiate. Porter’s combined score of 137 was only three shots off the pace of winner Alex Carpenter, Abilene Christian, who shot a 134 (65, 69). Central Oklahoma’s Josh Creel came in second with a 136 (68, 68).
“Yesterday he (Porter) played a phenomenal round,” said Head Coach Jerry Hrnciar. “He had a good week and that’s about what I expect out of him all year.”
As a team, Cameron finished in sixth place with a two-round score of 578. Cameron failed to improve on their day one score of 287, posting a 291. Hrnciar said those four shots were not hard to find.
“We played hard, but we had four unplayable lies,” he said. “We had three in the hazard and one out of bounds.”
While Hrnciar said he was disappointed to not be at the top with the winner UCO (563) or second place ACU (567), he said there were positives to Cameron’s performance. One was consistency.
“We were the only team in the tournament without a six, seven or eight on a hole,” the coach said.
