Portales, N.M. (Sept. 20, 2011) ¬¬ Cameron comes home from a three game road trip with a 2-1 record after defeating the Eastern New Mexico Zias 3-1.
The Aggies started out on fire, winning the first game 25-11. Cameron rattled off six points in a row early to pull ahead 9-3 and never looked back. Cameron finished the game hitting .355 with 13 kills and 3 blocks. Their play slipped in game 2, as the team dropped the game 25-20.
Game 3 started out with a bang, as Cameron pulled out to a 6-0 on the backs on Sarah Corbett, Malyssa Acton and Adrienne Lawson. Lawson finished the contest with 18 kills to lead the Aggies. The Zias wouldn’t go down without a fight, pulling it to 20-16. But Cameron proved too strong, winning five of the next seven points. Kelle Carver picked up three out of her 13 kills down that stretch.
Game 5 started out close, as the Aggies fought to a 6-4 lead before pressing on the gas. Cameron nailed seven consecutive points on the back of a strong service game from Julisa Ocasio. Ocasio finished with two aces and 24 digs. The digs led the team in a strong overall defensive effort.
After back-to-back points by the Zias, Cameron would again string together six consecutive points to pull ahead 19-6. From there it was elementary, as the Aggies kept the pressure on en route to a 25-12 victory and a 3-1 win.
