Box Score SAN ANGELO, Texas (Feb. 1, 2012) — Cameron bounced back from an early week loss with a nice 56-52 road victory in San Angelo.
The Aggies (12-7, 8-5) got off the bus feeling good and it showed, as the Black and Gold jumped out early, pulling ahead by nine with 11:24 left on back to back threes by Devon Crabtree and Thomas Razor. The Rams would come back; pulling to within two at 5:56, but it was Razor who would provide the response again with a lay-up to keep the spread at four. Cameron would maintain that four point lead into half, 25-21.
He second half played out similar to the first half, as the Aggies continued to control the pace and the lead in the game. ASU would pull to within two, with 11:22 remaining in the game, but would fail to pull any closer. Things did get interesting in the end, as the Rams controlled the ball, while trailing by only three. But CU’s defense would hold, as the home team failed to convert its field goal attempt, allowing Cameron to seal its 56-52 victory.
Following the victory, Head Coach Wade Alexander was quick to praise his team’s defense for the victory.
“We practiced hard on it all week,” the coach said. “We finally played good team defense. We were able to play at the speed we needed to, especially since we were in foul trouble. It was a total team effort.”
Razor and Milton Garner led the Aggies in scoring with 15 points apiece. Desmond Henry led the team with nine rebounds, while Craig Foster posted a team-high five assists.
The win allows Cameron to maintain its hold on third place in conference standings. The team will look to improve on those standings against Abilene Christian (10-11, 2-9) at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Aggie Gym.
