LONGVIEW, Texas (April 1, 2012) — Cameron’s men’s golf team’s junior varsity squad traveled to Longview, Texas this week to participate in the LeTourneau Spring Classic, and after two days of playing through rain the team claimed a 5th place finish with a 611.
“Our putting could have been better,” said Rick Goodwin, women’s head coach. Goodwin traveled with the team in place of men’s head coach, Jerry Hrnciar. “I know these guys are capable of more. But, it was difficult conditions out there.”
Bradley Ferrell led the team with a 150 (76, 74), tying him for 14th place overall. Bobby Good was close behind in a tie for 18th with a 151 (75, 76), followed by Corey Bounds in a tie for 25th with a 154 (74, 80). Jamie Gray shot a 156 (77, 79) to tie for 32nd and Jacob Caldwell, with a 168 (86, 82), finished in 53rd to round out the scores.
“It was a good chance to get some competitive shots,” Goodwin said. “Conditions weren’t perfect, but it’s something you need to learn to play through to be a better golfer.”
The University of Texas-Tyler won the tournament with a 574, followed by Louisiana College and Schreiner University with a 586 and 603, respectively.
The golf team will return to competition April 12-13, participating in the Dallas Baptist Classic at the Golf Club of Dallas.
