Aggies In 12th Place After Day One At Regional Tournament

JEFFERSON CITY (May 7, 2012) — Cameron struggled in the first round of the NCAA DII South Central Regional Tournament Monday, finishing 14-over on the day with a first round 302. The score places the Aggies in a tie for 12th place with conference rivals Midwestern State. The tournament is being played at the par-72, Jefferson City Country Club.

“We didn’t hit the ball in the fairway … and the roughs here are tough,” said Head Coach Jerry Hrnciar. “We only made four birdies that counted in our score. We didn’t cover many mistakes. We hung together as good as we could on front side, but the backside caught up with us.”

Trey Lawson paced CU on the day, finishing 2-over (74). Garrett Smith, Brady Porter and Kregg Wood posted identical scores of 4-over (76) to tie for 46th place. Michael Kelly was the final Aggie with a 5-over (77), tying him for 61st place.

Central Missouri is out in front after the first of three days, finishing 2-under with a 286. The team was led by Jared King, who shot a 4-under (68) to tie with Grand Valley State’s Travis Shooks for 1st place.

The 15 participating teams will continue play tomorrow. CU will tee-off at 7:30 p.m.

“We need to shoot under a 295 to jump back in the running,” Hrnciar said. “We are more than capable of that.”
