Aggies finish in sixth at Coody-West Texas Intercollegiate

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University men’s golf team finished in sixth place at the Charles Coody West Texas Intercollegiate in Abilene, Texas.

Cameron got off to a fast start on the front nine and climbed up to second place after the 16th hole.  Nine costly strokes on the final two holes dropped CU back to their finishing spot after round one.  The Aggies put together a two-round total of 587, which were 38 strokes back of Abilene Christian who finished with a 549.

“I thought we rebounded great on the front nine and looked good to finish the tournament in second,” said head coach Jerry Hrnciar.  “We collapsed in the last two holes as a team and every once and a while that happens to best of them.”

“We just have to battle back from this and work on the things that need to done.”

Senior, Trey Lawson led the Aggies with an eighth place finish after rounds of 72-70, nine strokes back of Abilene Christian’s Alex Carpenter.  Kregg Wood, finished tied for 17th with rounds of 72 and 73 .  Lawton native, Cullen Stahl in his first collegiate event placed in a tie for 24th after shooting a 146 (71-75)

“Trey, Kregg, and Cullen did a good job for us and we relied on their scores in this tournament,” said Hrnciar.

Michael Kelly finished tied for 57th with a two day total of 154 (75-79) and Jacob Caldwell ended the tournament with a 162.

The next event for the Aggies will be the Paris JC Invitational on Sept. 17 in Paris, Texas, this will be a Junior Varsity tournament.
