STEPHENVILLE, Texas -- Jenna Risoli and Shannon Dulaney both put together double-doubles but it would not be enough as the Cameron University volleyball team dropped their match at Tarleton State 3-0 (23-25, 13-25, 16-25) this afternoon in Wisdom Gymnasium.
Box Score
Cameron put on a tough fight in the first set leading the score at 21-20. However, the TexAnns rallied back after kills by Nikki McNortan, Danielle Barker, and a pair of CU attack errors helped give Tarleton the win in set one.
"We were competitive in the first set, defended well, and put down some good shots,” said head coach Doug Tabbert.
“Tarleton turned it up offensively and they have some big arms. We just had some bad stretches later in the match and they are good enough team who will take advantage that.”
CU started ahead 4-3 in set two but Tarleton State responded back with a 17-4 run. The Aggies would manage to trim down the lead late but the damage was done already as Tarleton would win the set, 13-25.
The third set started like the second with Cameron taking an early 4-2 lead but Tarleton would again respond going on a 6-0 run after four TexAnn kills and a pair of Aggie errors would force CU to burn an early timeout. Momentum stuck with the TexAnns after the Aggie timeout as they would fall once again 16-25.
For the second day in a row consistency was a factor for Cameron who had 26 kills but 23 errors, and hitting .019 compared to Tarleton State who had a hitting percentage of .276, 43 kills, and 13 errors.
Leading the Aggies offensively was freshman, Shannon Dulaney who had her fourth career double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Jenna Risoli had 25 assists and 11 digs. Rebecca Green also had 6 kills for CU.
The sweep this weekend drops Cameron's overall record to 4-6 with a Lone Star Conference record of 0-2. CU will return home for the first time this season to host Dallas Baptist in non-conference action at the Aggie Gym on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m.
