SAN ANGELO, Texas—The Cameron University women's basketball team falls tonight at Angelo State, 60-50.
CU got another good game from Chelsea Stamp, who scored 16 points on 6-14 from the field and 4-12 from the three point line. Jordan Kauk added nine points of her own; all from three pointers, and Ali Brown went 5-6 from the charity stripe, giving her seven points to go along with her nine rebounds.
As a team, Cameron went 34% from the field, 37.5% from behind the arc, and only had eight free throw attempts, which they made 62.5% of them. CU was plagued by turnovers, giving up the ball 21 times which led to 20 points by ASU. The Aggies were also out-rebounded 37-45 and gave up 32 points in the paint, compared to their own 12.
The game started with CU opening up the scoring, via a Lacy Reinke bucket, but Angelo State came right back and evened the score and then pulled away to an 8-2 lead. At the 9:45 mark, ASU got a bucket to give them a 19-12 lead. CU then went on a 5-0 run to get them to within two points. From there the Rambelles started another rally and by the half, ASU was up 29-20.
At the half, Angelo State had 20 points in the paint, 15 points off of turnovers, and was 36.4% from the field.
The second half started with an Aggie layup, and then a trading of scoring between the teams put the score at 33-25 at the 16:25 mark. CU would then put another little run together to get the deficit to within two at 33-31. ASU would start to pull away after this and the score would not get back to within six for the rest of the game.
For the game, Angelo State shot 36.5% from the field, 5.9% from the three point line, and 65% from the charity stripe. They were led by Morgan Youngblood with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Also, Lauren Holt and Leah Lemaire scored 16 points. Holt also had 12 rebounds for the Rambelles. ASU also totaled 11 steals and four blocks against the Aggies.
The loss puts CU at 4-18 on the season and 3-13 in Lone Star Conference games. ASU is now 10-12 overall and 7-9 in the LSC.
Cameron's next game will be against Abilene Christian on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 2 p.m. and will be followed by the men's game. This weekend is homecoming, and multiple alumni will be in the Aggie Gym for the games.
