Box Score ALLEN, Texas – A second-half run by West Texas A&M proved to be too much for Cameron to comeback from falling in the Lone Star Conference Tournament 65-50 in the Allen Event Center on Wednesday afternoon.
In the first half, Cameron matched West Texas A&M bucket by bucket until the 13:32 where the Buffs went on a 9-0 run. Both teams traded points before Cameron held WT to no scoring for the final three minutes closing the gap to four points, 28-24 at the half.
Rudy Harrell would lead Cameron scorers with seven first half points, Foster and Thomas both had five points each. As a team the Ags shot 37.0 percent from the field. Foster opened up the second half nailing a three to close the gap to one point. At the 16:38 mark the Aggies overtook the Buffs with a one point lead. However, a 15-2 WT run opened the gap to a 12 point Buff lead over the Aggies in the remaining minutes.
With less than two minutes left, Trevor Smith brought CU within 12, trailing 62-50, with a jumper, but that would be the last bucket for the Aggies as the Buffs would go on to win, 65-50. WT was able to maintain its lead by going 12-17 from the free throw line and out rebounding Cameron by seven. Leading the way offensively for the Aggies was Rudy Harrell with 13 points. Harrell also led the team with seven boards. Also scoring in double-figures for Cameron was Craig Foster who scored 12. Foster had 4 rebounds and 2 assists to go along with that, and was 4-4 from the free throw line. CU shot 38.5 percent from the field, 23.1 percent from beyond the arc, and 50 percent from the line. Meanwhile, the Buffs were 40.7 percent from the field, 27.3 percent from three point land, and 70.6 percent from the charity stripe.
Cameron is now 0-4 against West Texas A&M in conference tourney matchups.
The Aggies will await the announcement of the Regional tournament that will come out Sunday night on the NCAA Tournament Selection Show. They are currently ranked #7 in the South Central Regional.
