Aggies fall in straight sets to Eastern New Mexico

LAWTON, Okla. – The Cameron University Volleyball team fell in straight sets to the Eastern New Mexico Zias Tuesday night at the Aggie Gym.

The Aggies (4-5), were hurt by multiple errors in the first set of their home opener. CU committed 14 errors on 45 attempts, while the Zias only committed six errors on 40 attempts. ENMU ended up winning set one 25-14.

"We just got beat tonight in every phase of the game," said head coach Doug Tabbert. "There's no question that it's disappointing, they (ENMU) just looked like a team who wanted to beat whoever was on the other side of the court."

"We'll just have to hit practice hard the next couple days before we play again this weekend."

CU fell in the second set 25-20, and battled through seven tie scores to lose set three 25-18.

Kelle Carver led the Aggie offense with 15 kills, with Kat Evans added six kills to the effort. Setter, Kayla Hebert added another double-double to her season with 30 assists and 11 digs. Lauren Acuna added 19 digs to the defensive effort, and Rebecca Green had four blocks.

The Zias were led by Courtney Lawson, who had 10 kills and 14 digs, and Kaitlyn Maddams, who had six kills and 10 digs. Karra Day had 31 assists, while Hayley Couch added 14 digs. The ENMU defense had a total of 10 blocks.

Cameron is now 4-5, with a 0-1 Lone Star Conference record, and Eastern New Mexico is 3-6, with a 1-0 LSC mark.

The Aggies will swing through Texas for a match with Tarleton State on Friday, Sept. 20, and a match with Angelo State the next day.
