Aggie comeback falls short against #7 West Texas A&M

Box Score LAWTON, Okla. – A second half comeback fell short for the Cameron University women's basketball team who fell to #7 ranked West Texas A&M 73-66 on Saturday afternoon in the Aggie Gym.

Cameron (8-4, 0-2 LSC) trailed by 15 points in the second half, but CU was aided by six three pointers and got within four points to West Texas A&M (11-1, 2-0 LSC) in the closing minutes before the Lady Buffs pulled away at the end.

Jazzmine Robinson led Cameron with 16 points with Lacy Reinke adding 12, and Christina Caddy chipping in 11.

The Aggies matched the Lady Buffs shooting 41.8% (23-55) from the field and out-rebounded WT 32-31.

Cameron kept pace with the Lady Buffs early but the Ags were held silent from the field for six minutes before Chelsea Stamp sank a three pointer from the right side to close the WT lead to six (18-12). However, WT responded back with nine unanswered points to pull away by 15 points on Cameron with 7:25 left in the first half.

The Aggies would close the Lady Buff lead in the remaining minutes of the half but they would trail at 35-27; Robinson led CU with nine points.

The second half started off on the wrong foot for the Ags as WT opened with a six point run forcing CU to take a timeout; Cameron responded with a quick five point run to pull within 10 points.

West Texas A&M pulled away by 15 points once again before Cameron shot lights out for a four minute stretch midway through the half and pulled within three. After trading buckets, the Lady Buffs would push their lead to seven points with 1:35 left.

Lacy Reinke and the Aggies were aided by a bucket and foul to get within four of WT and it would be the closest CU would get to West Texas in final minute of the game.

Ali Brown led the Ags with eight boards and added four points of her own; Reinke pulled through with a pair of blocks.

The Cameron women will continue their conference slate at home against Texas A&M-Commerce on Wednesday and Texas Woman's on Thursday.
